Killing the Flame Keepers tending the Searing cauldron doesn't do anything except give you some exp. The Searing still takes place. Apparently the Charr come back to life or something.

I come close to doing that (killed the flame keepers and several of the patrols), since in pre-searing there is no death penalty its more a time endurace trial that anything else ... of course be ready to waste several hours cleaning the map.
A word of advice, in pre-searing there are monks near the ressurection portals so you can play tag with the mobs and pull then to the portal so the monks near keep healing you.

Where on earth did u get retribution and symbol of wrath in pre searing, if I may ask?

Don't you get Symbol of Wrath from Mhenlo for whatever his second quest is? I got those skills pretty early on with my first character, R/Mo. It was either him or Grazden that I got it from.

I got every menlo and gazden skill before searing. SoW and retribution weren't among them.
Wherever he got them, it wasn't from Menlo or Gazden.

Symbol of Wrath and Retribution are gotten from the 3rd quest guys ... when you are protecting the female warrior!

That's Shielding Hands and Reversal of Fortune.
Symbol of Wrath and Retribution are gained from the quest right after becoming a Monk secondary (or just a regular quest if you're a primary monk) and the objective is to aid the farmers in their fight against the skeletons.

Yep, this is correct.
We would have died about 100 times each if we'd just done kamikaze attacks, it was these skills that made it possible, + the flatbows for drawing out monsters in smaller groups (yes, it is a hornbow on one of the screens, found a better flatbow later )
Plus, since me and my guild mate had almost the exact same build, the main strategy was to use healing breeze, draw a mob, and both use Symbol of Wrath simultaneousely, and fire rain if they survived that. Very effective for crowds... you just hope you survive long enough
